In a previous post, Stepping it up – staircase, I shared some beautiful design ideas I found for our staircase. Since then we have been very busy building and painting.
Unfortunately we don’t have a ‘before’ shot to share. Just picture this: salmon pink walls, dark horrible timber balustrade and hand rail and nothing very inviting. Put it this way – it didn’t exactly entice you to start the journey upstairs.
We based the design ideas on our overall style we have going through our home – French Provincial / Hamptons Beach House. Unfortunately as the stairwell is in the middle of the house, there is very little natural light so we wanted to make the area as light as possible.
We based our design on this photo. We love the white and grey colour tones on this picture and of course the timber dado up the stairs.
Once we had an idea of the look we were trying to achieve we started building the timber dado.
And sanding the timber balustrade back.
This next job certainly wasn’t my favourite. Can you see the look of terror in my eyes? I was rather nervous up the ladder as it was obviously two stories up.
And here’s the finished product. We haven’t had new carpets put in yet because we want to finish the upstairs renovations first.
Love this beautiful framed artwork that our brother and sister-in-law brought back from overseas. The frame is just perfect for the style.
We are delighted with our decision to strip back the balustrade and paint the posts high gloss white.
Lastly, our beautiful light which casts unique shadows across the ceiling, and we love the timber filigree in the entrance to the lounge.
Another project completed and another area in our home that we simply adore.
