We have a rule in our home – we must finish one room/project before we start destroying the next room. So now that the kitchen and living area is finished we have decided to start renovating the downstairs bathroom. We call this room the powder room because it’s not our main bathroom and it’s used more as a powder room.
In my previous post I shared some design ideas that I came across while looking for inspiration.
So here’s what we’ve got to work with. Don’t you just love the gold shower frame!
After we stripped the bathroom we chose a beautiful 400×400 grey tile to use as the floor tile. Given that we decided to go with a grey and white colour scheme they were perfect for the look we were trying to achieve. Here’s a photo of the tiles laid and the beautiful pedestal basin to see the white and grey contrast. I just love the curved feature on the pedestal.
We decided to use the design idea of so many beautiful bathrooms we had seen and use a white timber dado feature around the walls, with the wall above painted grey. This provides the beautiful fresh and clean look that we are hoping to achieve. Here’s a photo of one of the bathrooms we sourced this idea from.
And here’s our finished powder room!
We are big believers that choice of tapware and lighting can be the finishing touches that add a sense of style and class to a bathroom. Here’s our choice of tapware for our beautiful pedestal basin.
And here’s our perfect little chandelier.
There’s nothing like artwork to finish off a bathroom. We were at a market on Portobello Road in London late last year and I saw this print. It couldn’t be more perfect!
And finally here’s the mirror we chose. We had to be careful not to distract from the simplicity and style with the other features in the room so we chose a simple white frame with a beveled mirror.
What a transformation! We couldn’t be happier. Many thanks to my patient husband and my amazingly talent father who spent many hours trying to neatly fit the plumbing into the pedestal.
